MWC2015 - New Mobile Launches from Samsung, HTC, SONY, Microsoft & Lenovo

MWC is quite possibly the biggest yearly event in the mobile world. MWC 2015 is expected to be every bit as big and there are already rumblings of some of what might be on show, such as the Samsung Galaxy S6. That's likely to be a show stopper all on its own, but there are lots of others things going on in the mobile world too, so here's our list of what we'd most like to see.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. The pair of S6 phones succeed the Galaxy S5, Samsung's prior flagship announced one year ago, and will be available across the world starting on April 10th.

The Galaxy S6 Edge will be priced higher than the standard S6, though Samsung isn’t saying exactly how much either one will be at this point. The Galaxy S6 phones are packed with the latest technology: an octacore Samsung Exynos processor (for the international version, Samsung would not confirm what processor the US models will use); 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED displays; 3GB of RAM; 32, 64, or 128GB of internal storage; 16-megapixel cameras with optical image stabilization; a new fingerprint sensor in the home button that no longer requires a swipe; an infrared heart-rate monitor that Samsung says also helps the camera obtain accurate white balance; integrated support for both Qi and PMA wireless charging; fast USB charging that’s 1.5 times faster than the Galaxy S5; a speaker that’s 1.5 times louder than the S5’s; and integrated support for Samsung Pay, which uses either NFC or MFT (LoopPay) technology for transactions.

HTC One M9

HTC is finally ready to show the world its latest flagship, the One M9. HTC One M9 launched at MWC. M9 has an aluminium unibody design with a 5-inch 1080p display framed at the top and bottom by HTC's trademark BoomSound speakers.  Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU is doing the heavy lifting here, supported by 3GB of RAM, and the M9 also sees the welcome addition of Android 5.0 Lollipop, although the presence of HTC's
Sense skin means users won't see such a dramatic aesthetic change between 4.4 and 5.0. The battery capacity has also been bumped up from 2,600mAh to 2,840mAh, which, when combined with the new Snapdragon, will hopefully see the M9 last a full day with ease.

Microsoft Lumia 640 & 640XL

Microsoft took to MWC 2015 to announce its next addition to the mid-range Lumia range, the Microsoft Lumia 640, and we got a bit of time to play around with the new handset.

The Lumia 640 builds off of the strengths of the Lumia 635 but brings none of the drawbacks. With improved hardware and a larger, 720P display, the Lumia 640's dual-SIM LTE design should open Windows Phone to a whole new market.

Additionally, Microsoft is tossing in a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote on the Lumia as well as on one PC or Mac and one tablet. The subscription comes with 1TB of OneDrive storage and 60 free minutes of Skype Unlimited Worldwide calling per month.

Pricing of the dual-SIM LTE version of the Lumia 640 is expected to be around $180 (159 euros) while the dual-SIM 3G should retail for $155 (139 euros) both starting in April.

Lenovo A7000

After successfully staking its claim to offer 'most affordable 4G smartphone' with A6000, Lenovo has upped its big game with A7000 at MWC this year. It's hardly been couple of months, since Lenovo announced (and started selling) A6000 across markets like India but looks like they want more of the same with A7000 this time.

Lenovo A7000 (what's with the name) sports a 5.5-inch HD display and running on Vibe UI over Android 5.0 Lollipop (we suppose). It packs a 1.5GHz octa-core Mediatek CPU with 2GB RAM and offering 8GB storage, which is expandable further. This dual-SIM phablet still supports 4G LTE connectivity and comes loaded with an 8MP rear and 5MP front snappers. Lenovo has backed up the A7000 with 2900 mAh battery and weighing 140 grams, this one's not going to feel bulky, like other phablets in the market. In all likelihood, Lenovo A7000 will be fighting out with the Yurekas and Redmi Notes in the country with its like-to-like form size, features and pricing (expect Rs 9,999).

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Sony's flagship Xperia Z3  was one of my favourite phones of last year, with a stunningly sleek design and completely waterproof construction. It did, however, come with an extremely high price tag. With the Xperia M4 Aqua, Sony has watered down the Z3 to create a much more affordable version.

To lower the price, the internal specs of the phone have been rather toned down. It has a 720p display, instead of full HD, a less powerful processor and a 13- rather than 20-megapixel camera. It is still waterproof, however, and its design is almost identical to the beautiful Xperia Z3. It even has 4G LTE.
